Being an adoptive parent, there had been many occasions when I was asked: “Why did you consider adopting a baby to start a family?” Well, there are many reasons why we choose to adopt and below are some reasons why you should consider adopting a baby too!

1.    Infertility
This is the first reason I have listed but it is by no means the reason for my choice. However, there are indeed many couples out there who are suffering from infertility and since they wish to have children, adoption seems an obvious choice. However, if this is the main reason, I would suggest that you spend more time in considering first before making your decision. You need to be sure that you are definitely able to accept that your child is not genetically related to you and that you will be able to love your adopted child like your own fresh and blood before you proceed with your adoption journey.

2.    Taking in an otherwise homeless child
It is not uncommon to find unwed mothers or poor and young parents who simply could not afford either financially or emotionally to take care of a child. When that happens, the next best choice for them is to put their child up for adoption. Sometimes the child’s parents could also have passed away, leaving no one to look after the child. In such instances you are actually providing the child with an alternative warm family which is capable of loving an otherwise homeless child.

Regardless of what your reasons for adopting a baby might be, it is not hard to find thousands of homeless children all around the world just waiting to be adopted someday. Some of these children might be living in orphanages or in foster homes and though they do have a roof over their heads, they are usually not given sufficient love, warmth, touch or education. By adopting one of them, you are actually making a difference in their lives!

Adoption is a beautiful gift any parent can give to a child and regardless of whether you are adopting a baby, toddler or young child, you are not only benefiting the child but yourself too. Think of the tremendous joy the child will bring into your life. I can vow for that because my life has never been the same again since we adopted our pair of twins.
