Adopting a Baby – Madonna Is At It Again?

Apparently Madonna feels that one adoption is not enough to fill the quiet in her house or should we say that she’s really persistent. It seems that she is going back to Malawi now to adopt the little baby girl whom she had seen back in 2006 when she was adopting David. However, this gracious act of hers is again raising a big hoo-hah!

I must say that I really admire her guts for going through with a second adoption despite the numerous problems which she had faced back when she was adopting David, now 3. Many people were unhappy that she had seemed to be given priority when she chose to adopt from Malawi. Now, it seems that people are again unhappy because the little girl does have a grandmother who is still alive and wants to gain back custody of her when the girl is 6 but now the little girl, Mercy James, has to live in an orphanage.

There are generally differing views on Madonna’s decision to adopt again but I personally feel that this is indeed a gracious act and is for the benefit for Mercy James. Although the Mercy has a grandmother and many people feel that it is better for children to be with their relatives if possible, how much can the grandmother really provide for her? She is now staying in an orphanage and her grandmother can only fight for custody for her when she is 6 years old, so what is going to happen to her now?

She has already ‘wasted’ the first few important years of her life in an orphanage where she did not get to experience the warmth of love of a cozy and loving family, why stop her now when she has the chance to receive more? Malawi is a very poor village where more than half the population survives on less than a dollar a day, can Mercy James receive much? Her grandmother might not even be able to feed her and provide for her daily necessities!

Regardless of what people might say about Madonna’s second adoption, I second her decision. Three cheers for Madonna! Don’t get me wrong – I’m not a fan of Madonna but I feel that if only there are more gracious people like Madonna and Angelina Jolie out there, there would be fewer orphans in the world!
